The Paleomagnetism.org data library is developed with the FAIR data management principles in mind. Our goal is to support the paleomagnetic community in sharing their paleomagnetic data in a transparent, reliable, and sustainable way.
Disclaimer: this domain is hosted by the Utrecht University paleomagnetism group as a contribution to our field of research. We are not a licensed data repository, and we do not distribute new DOIs. We provide a best-effort approach and take utmost care of the data used within our application. No rights may be derived from data submitted to the library, or loss thereof.
Data hosted in the public Paleomagnetism.org library is freely searchable through metadata (e.g. geographical coverage, specimen age). All data submitted are assigned persistent identifiers that unique identify a particular publication, collection, specimen, or single interpretation in the library.
All data submitted to the library can be downloaded from the web interface, or directly through the HTTPS API. We commit resources and guarantee that data submitted to the library will remain accessible for the foreseeable future.
The HTTPS API is based on the widely adopted HTTPS protocol which means it can be integrated with other software applications that pull data from our repository, or larger pan-European research infrastructures (e.g. EPOS). Specimen metadata also follows semantic vocabularies defined by the MagIC consortium to facilitate integration and interoperability.
Since data provenance are included with the submitted data, older published data can be directly re-used at a later time. The data library accepts raw demagnetization data from which all other data are derived, and thus provides the ultimate case of reusability.
